Varanasi Airport to Kashi Vishwanath Temple: Distance, Drop Point and Fare

Distance

Travel Time

Route

NH-31 from Babatpur, then city roads to Godowlia

From Varanasi airport (VNS) to Kashi Vishwanath Temple it's 25.7 km by road, and we charge a fixed ₹649 for a Swift Dzire. No airport is closer to the temple than Lal Bahadur Shastri at Babatpur. One catch: cars aren't allowed right up to it. The car stops at Godowlia or Maidagin and you walk the last bit.

From Babatpur airport to Kashi Vishwanath it's 25.7 km by road. Give it 40 to 60 min in the day, and our fixed fare starts at ₹649 for a Swift Dzire, the same at midnight as at noon. You'll see 22 km on the district website and the temple trust's tourist page. That's to the city, not the temple. The highway part is quick. The time goes in the last few kilometres inside the old city, more so on Mondays and festival days. Our car can't drive up to the temple. The trust has made the stretch from Godowlia to Maidagin a No Vehicle Zone, and that includes our cars. So we drop you at one of its two ends. From Godowlia crossing it's 454 m on foot, about 6 min. From Maidagin it's 978 m, about 13 min past Chowk, so we only use that end when the Godowlia side is jammed. On crowded days the police can push the barriers back to Girjaghar, by St Thomas Church, and then the walk is 601 m, about 8 min. Our drivers check that morning and pick the closer end. If a parent can't walk that far, the trust runs an E-Kart for differently-abled devotees. Phones, smartwatches, cameras and bags don't go inside. Straight off a flight, you have two easy options. Go to the hotel first and drop your bags. Or book the car to wait: bags and phones stay in the boot with the driver, and after darshan we take you on to the hotel. We quote the waiting when you book. Our fares are fixed: Swift Dzire ₹649, Innova Crysta ₹999, 12-seater tempo traveller ₹1,999, Maharaja Urbania ₹3,499. There's no surge and no night charge, and if your flight runs late we track it and the driver waits at no extra cost. We confirm the all-in amount on WhatsApp before you land.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Kashi Vishwanath from Varanasi airport?
25.7 km, airport to temple. Our car can't go the whole way, though. It stops at Godowlia, 25 km out, and you do the last 454 m on foot. If someone quotes you 22 km, they're measuring to the city, not to the temple. That's the figure on the district site and on the trust's tourist page, and it's fine for what it is.
Which airport is nearest to Kashi Vishwanath?
Babatpur. On your ticket it'll say VNS, Lal Bahadur Shastri International, and the temple trust's own FAQ names it as the nearest one. Got Sarnath on the list as well? The district site puts it 30 km from the airport, so keep it for another morning.
How long does it take from Varanasi airport to Kashi Vishwanath?
By day, give it 40 to 60 min. The highway bit flies by. It's the old city that eats the clock, those last few kilometres into Godowlia, and on a Monday or a festival day it's worse. Late at night it's another story: with empty roads the drive can come close to the 23 min a route planner shows. I just wouldn't plan darshan around that number.
Can a taxi drop me right at the temple gate?
No, and nobody's can. The trust made Godowlia to Maidagin a No Vehicle Zone, so we stop at one end of it. From Godowlia it's 454 m, about 6 min on foot. Maidagin is our backup because the walk's longer, 978 m. Which gate you'll reach first? The trust's site doesn't say, so we won't guess. When the police push the barriers back to Girjaghar on a crowded day, that walk is 601 m. Anyone who can't manage it can ask the trust for its E-Kart, it's there for differently-abled devotees.
Where do I keep my phone and luggage?
With us, ideally. Phones, smartwatches, electronic keys, cameras, none of it goes inside. The trust's FAQ does list free lockers at Mandir Chauk, the YSK counters and its help desks, but its own notice calls them limited, and nothing says whether a cabin bag fits. Coming straight off a flight? Book the car to wait. Bags stay in the boot, our driver stays with the car, and after darshan we take you on to the hotel.
How much do you charge for the airport to temple drop?
₹649 in a Swift Dzire. Innova Crysta's ₹999, the 12-seater tempo traveller ₹1,999 and Maharaja Urbania ₹3,499, and a midnight landing pays the same as a noon one. That gets you the car, fuel, AC, the driver, flight tracking and the wait at arrivals. The note under the fare table lists driver allowance, tolls, parking and GST as extra. It's a site-wide line, and our price list doesn't spell out which of those apply to this drop, so message us on 9250331290 and we'll send the all-in amount before you land.
Can I go in from the river side?
Mostly you can. The trust's FAQ says the gate on the ghat side, Gate No. 1, opens 06:00 to 21:00. The trust also warns that the Ganga Dwar can be shut when the river is high, so check its notices page before you plan to come by boat. By car you still get down at Godowlia or Maidagin.
