Our Story

In 1993, the founder of Varanasi On Wheels bought a single Ambassador car and began ferrying pilgrim families arriving at Varanasi Cantt railway station to the ghats of the Ganga and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. There was no smartphone booking, no GPS — just a card with a phone number left at hotel receptions and dharamshalas around Godowlia and Dashashwamedh.

What kept the phone ringing wasn't the price. It was the punctuality, the willingness to wait without complaint at the Vishwanath darshan queue, and the patient handling of elderly pilgrims who needed help getting in and out of the car. Three years in, families from Kolkata and Pune started calling ahead to book the same driver for their annual Kashi yatra. Word spread.

Today, three decades later, Varanasi On Wheels operates a fleet of 50+ vehicles — from the entry-level Swift Dzire to the ultra-luxury Maharaja Urbania — and serves over 5,000 pilgrims, business travellers, wedding parties, and tourists every year. The Cantt office on Mint House sits about 800 metres from the railway station the founder used to wait outside. The business is still family-run. The phone number is still answered 24×7.

We never tried to be the biggest. We try, every day, to be the most trusted.

Milestones

1993

Added Innova and Sumo to handle group pilgrimage bookings. First contracts with Sri Lankan Buddhist groups for Sarnath-Bodhgaya circuits — a partnership that continues today.

2010

Tempo Traveller fleet launched

Added 12-seater and 17-seater tempo travellers to serve mid-size pilgrim groups. Became one of the first Varanasi operators to publish transparent per-km pricing online.

2016

Maharaja Tempo Traveller — luxury segment

Introduced the Maharaja Tempo Traveller (luxury reclining-seat conversion) for VIP and executive travel. First wedding contracts began that year.

2020

WhatsApp-first bookings

During the pandemic, shifted entirely to WhatsApp-first booking. 24×7 response on a single number — still the fastest channel to reach us.

2023

Maharaja Urbania ultra-luxury

Added the Maharaja Urbania (9-seater Force Urbania with bespoke luxury interior) — the most premium tempo in the Varanasi market. Used for high-end weddings and senior pilgrim groups.

2024

Ayodhya Ram Mandir route

After the Ram Mandir consecration on 22 January 2024, the Varanasi → Ayodhya route became our most-booked outstation trip. We pre-trained drivers on the Ram Mandir entry protocol and Sugam darshan logistics.

2026

33 years and 50+ vehicles

Today, Varanasi On Wheels operates a 50+ vehicle fleet spanning Swift Dzire to Maharaja Urbania and 40–49 seater luxury buses — covering Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Nepal.
